Winter Break Day 2: golf, cars, and monjya

I know it’s not Osaka, but this street is still natukasii.

We walked from the Shinagawa Prince Hotel to Shinagawa Seaside so Cousin’s Twin could go to one of his many golf places. We got there too early, which would prove to be a theme for the rest of the two weeks. I should have suspected that would be the case when he managed to wake me up on weekends when I was in Oregon, 3 hours ahead of him. XD

So we walked around for a while, and look what we found!

It’s a see-saw!

And more natukasii-ness! The stop here signs at crosswalks, and the yellow bumpy tiles for blind people and people with sore feet

Then we went to Kokusai Tenjijyou to see Tokyo Big Sight. I got swacked with the invisible harisen for not knowing immediately that that’s where all the anime cons are.

While we were up a group that looked like they were from Harajuku passed us. Cousin and Cousin’s Twin couldn’t tell if the person leading the group was male or female, so I got a laugh then.

This was in one of the courtyard-type places at Big Sight.

Then we went back to Bridgestone Golf Plaza so Cousin’s Twin could get fitted for golf clubs. That was about an hour of sitting in a chair, watching Cousin’s Twin hit golf balls and talking with the guy working the computer. He gave us a suggestion for dinner, so we got to try monjya yaki!

But before that we walked to Tokyo Teleport, that futurist town where all the telephone wires are underground and stuff.

We can’t figure out what this is supposed to be. Some sort of saxophone thing…? The Japanese people walking in front of us didn’t seem to know, either.

Because Cousin and Cousin’s Twin wanted to, we went into a building that had a ton of cars. Since I know nothing about cars other than it’s good when they run, I was rather bored. Thus the lack of photos. But then we walked through a shopping mall that looked like Ceasar’s Palace, and it snowed! Well, not really. It foamed. But it was neat.

We’d walked right past the fountain because we didn’t know what was going on, but then we heard the announcement over the PA and turned back. On the way the lights went down and the ornaments lit up.

Photobucket
At the fountain the lighting cycled through blues and greens, pinks and oranges, and the snowflake lights on the curtains rotated. Heh, afterward all the kiosk workers had to clean the foam off their display cases.

When we were headed off to Tsukijima for a monjya yaki dinner, we passed the Panasonic building.

Oh, there was a tiny little laptop in there that I want! It looked maybe ¾ the size of my Dell, and was about half the weight, with a round track pad that you could use to scroll… Oh the wanting noises!

Ooh, and monjya, yummy. It’s kinda like okonomi yaki, only soupier. We didn’t know what we were doing, so the daughter (?) of the shop owners came and helped us. Cousin’s Twin wanted to take her home so she could cook for him.

Photobucket
All the ingredients came in a little bowl, like in that okonomiyaki restaurant in Hirakata shi. After you cook the stuff on the top, the cabbage and meat and stuff, you make a circle with it and pour the soupy stuff inside. Then when that’s cooked a bit, you mix it all together and pour the sauce and ao nori on top. It’s yummy, but I think I like okonomi yaki and modan yaki better.

And speaking of yummy foods, McDonald’s had a strawberry cheesecake McFlurry. Not as good as the sankaku choco pie, which they no longer sell, sadface, but it was still yummy. And yes, I ate ice cream of some sort almost every day (≧∪≦)

It looks really neat, but it only goes about a foot and a half off the ground. (-_-)
